Back in 2016 I first started my own business, I often felt overwhelmed and struggled with the workload and pressure. It was around that time that I discovered the power of positive mindset books (and Podcasts for that matter – but that’s another blog!)


Fast forward 4 years and we’re all living through a Global Pandemic, the power of a book that can help you see things differently is more important than ever.

So, during the rollercoaster that is 2020 I’ve put together a list of my top 5 books that will make you want to move mountains.


5. ‘Happy’ by Darren Brown.

This book takes a different approach than the others on this list … it’s less about habits & mindset and more ‘why more or less everything is fine”.

Darren Brown explores changing concepts of happiness throughout history. Using the wisdom of the Ancient Philosophers and basically drags the modern self-help industry through the mud!

Way more philosophical than typical positive mindset books ‘Happy’ aims to reclaim happiness and to enable us to appreciate the good things in life. By taking control of the stories we tell ourselves, by remembering that `everything's fine' even when it might not feel that way, we can allow ourselves to flourish and to live more happily – who doesn’t want that?!

4. ‘Good Vibes, Good Life: How Self Love is the Key to Unlocking Your Greatness’ by Vex King.

Vex King’s dad died when he was 6 months old, brought up by his mum in a traditional Indian household, his family often lived on the streets. He suffered racist abuse living in a rough neighbourhood but overcame all of that to become an optimist & visionary.

Drawing on his personal wisdom and experiences, King shows you ways to transform negative emotions into positive ones, how to love yourself, and how to overcome fear.

This book will give you the tools you need to practise self-care, overcome toxic energy and prioritize your wellbeing, as well as cultivate positive lifestyle habits, including mindfulness and meditation.

3. ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck’ by Mark Manson.

This book hits you like a much-needed slap in the face by your best friend. Manson makes the point that all humans are flawed, "not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault." He advises us to get to know our limitations and embrace them.

Happiness and freedom come from knowing what to care about … and more importantly, what NOT to care about – this book gives readers the tools to do just that.

2. ‘Women Don’t Owe You Pretty’ by Florence Given. Ok, so this book is less about positive mindset and more about destroying the patriarchy … but Florence Given’s debut book will reshape and challenge the way you see yourself.

Florence covers subjects such as body image, toxic beauty standards, and identity-building in a world still plagued by misogyny and sexism.

Well written and beautifully illustrated, this book makes you think about how much of what you do is for you … and how much is for other people.

Full of uncomfortable truths, ways to protect your own energy and reasons why you are the love of your own life – this is a must read!

1. ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear.

This is pretty much world-renowned as one of the most ground-breaking mindset books – and for good reason!

Written by habits expert James Clear, he begins by telling the reader about a life changing accident, before explaining his revolutionary system to get 1% better every day.

He defines Atomic Habits as ‘an easy and proven way to build good habits and break bad ones.’ Essentially, how adding small changes to your life can grow into life altering outcomes.

Along the way he uses psychology, neuroscience and stories of Olympic Medallists & CEOs to demonstrate his point about how small changes become big results.

We need all the help we can get right now – so pick your favourite from the list and get ready to feel inspired!
